June 2024 Reading Recap

by | Jul 3, 2024 | Book Review

June 2024 was a month full of amazing reads. It was really hard not to give all of these books 5 stars, even the ones I have some criticisms for.

I absolutely adore ACOTAR as a series and a world. Sarah J. Mass has created an amazing cast of characters and I cannot wait until I can afford to buy the other two books.

This was a good “end” to the story of the first couple books, so I wonder what adventure the next two books have in store!

This book definitely earned 5 stars!

The Fellowship of Bakers and Magic was a very welcome cozy break after the rollercoaster that was ACOTAR. The idea of magical Bake Off is amazing, my only complaint was that the ending felt weirdly rushed. The story and characters left me wanting more; the last chapter could have been expanded into its own book!

I gave it four stars and at the time of writing it is available on Kindle Unlimited

I really wanted to adore both Powerless. The class dynamics in Powerless are fascinating and I love the way the characters interact with each other. The world is great and I can’t wait to see how it grows and develops in the next main line book. At times the writing is a bit underdeveloped, but the author was 18 at the time of writing so it is very impressive!

I gave Powerless 4.5 stars.

While Powerful was a nice little read, it sadly did not do what I was hoping for with the character Adena. A beloved character from the previous book with a terrible fate, I was hoping to get more of a look into her and Payden’s interactions during the games. Instead she was given a separate love story with a new character. I am glad that the reason for her fate was explained…kind of.

I gave Powerful 3.5 stars. The pacing felt a little odd and it was often hard to tell what was going on.

Stephanie Garber is definitely one of my favorite authors at this point. I love how she dedicates paragraphs upon paragraphs to describing the magical settings of her books and also the beautiful dresses she puts her characters in. In Caraval she has her main character experience emotions as colors, which is a character quirk I have never seen before. In general, she has 10/10 world building and I adore all of her books.

I gave Caraval 4.5 stars, bordering on 5 stars.

Book 2 of the Caraval series switches POV from Scarlett to Tella, Scarlett’s sister we were looking for in the previous book. Garber continues with the beautiful writing style I have come to adore, dedicating paragraphs upon paragraphs to describing the world and the dresses Tella wears. By little tweaks in her style of writing, Garber effortlessly shifts to Tella’s POV, showing her personality and quirks.

I also gave Legendary 4.5 stars, bordering on 5 stars.
